"Mandus" Storm - Heavy Rain Warning District Collector or Karmegam said
All necessary precautionary measures have been taken in Salem district in view of Cyclone "Mantus" - heavy rain warning.

 A deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and Southeast Bay of Bengal intensified into Cyclone "Mantus", affecting Puducherry and It is likely to cross the coast between Sri Harikota on 09.12.2022 midnight, India Meteorological Department has informed.Due to this, heavy to very heavy rain may occur in various districts of Tamil Nadu for 4 days from 08.12.2022 to 11.12.2022, according to the India Meteorological Department.  Wind speed is also predicted to be high.According to the instructions of the Government of Tamil Nadu, 

the Revenue Department, Rural Develop ment Depart ment, Salem Corporation, Municipalities, Borough Councils, Panchayats, Public Works Department, Highways Department, Electricity Department, Water Resources Department, Fire and Rescue Department, Health Department, Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department, Agricultural Engineering Department, Fisheries Department, about the precautionary measures taken in Salem district. 

Consultation with officers of all departments including Cooperative Department, Transport Department (08.12.2022) on the day
 has been carried out.
In particular, the officers and employees of all departments working at various places in the district, including the Yercaud hills in Salem district, have been ordered to work from their places of work without any formal leave and permission. If any trees fall on the road sides during rains, the Highways Department and Fire Department have formed mobile teams with tree cutters, JCP machines and other equipment to remove the trees immediately.

It has been advised to continuously monitor the water availability and inflow of water in Mettur dam and reservoirs and immediately send a report to the head office and give due notice to the public in case of excess water release.
Also, the concerned officers have been instructed to ensure the availability of essential commodities including drinking water, milk, medicine stocks without any hindrance.

 In addition to maintaining the availability of electric poles and electric conductors, teams of the Electricity Board have been set up to repair damaged power lines immediately and adequate policemen have been instructed to direct the traffic through the police as required.

People over 60 years of age and children should be kept safely in their homes as it is expected to be very cold, so that people should avoid going out and traveling during rainy season without essential work.  Public are kindly requested to strictly follow the procedures advised by the district administration during rainy season.
