172 years ago, the first train in India ran on this day.

When the train was run from the main trading hub of Bombay to Thane, no one there knew how much this vehicle would be used in shaping the future of India.

The train ran for 34 kilometers from Bombay's Bori Bhandar to Thane. The train, which had 14 coaches, carried 400 guests.

On April 16, 1853, Lady Falkland, the wife of the Governor of Bombay, boarded the train, attended by 400 guests, including British government officials and wealthy individuals.
A public holiday was declared on that day so that the public could enjoy this historic event.

Many people watched the iron vehicle, which ran with smoke and noise, with wide-eyed amazement. Some ran screaming and beating their hind legs in panic.

Seeing all this fun, the train, which successfully reached its destination in 75 minutes, was given a grand welcome in Thane.
